At the Miami Boat show K.C. was introduced to Morris Palmer, the owner of Los Buzos Resort. Morris took a liking to K.C.’s work and invited him down to paint a wall at the resort’s restaurant. He wanted K.C. to utilize the two walls and dipict a very common scene in the waters off Los Buzos, a giant Black Marlin casing yellowfin tuna. K.C. and his fiance, Lindsay, flew out of Miami international to Panama City, Panama. They loaded onto a bus and trekked west across the interior of Panama for 4 1/2 hours where they arrived in a town named Los Tablas. They were then picked up in a pickup truck and driven 1 1/2 more hours through the mountains to Los Buzos. Los Buzos is a small resort in a very remote area. There are amazing views from the beach side villas, world class sport-fishing, and one of the best surf breaks in the world. It is guaranteed that when construction is finished and access by air becomes available, Los Buzos will be a very sought after destination.

May and June in Boca Grande equals Tarpon and lots of them. This is when the PTTS comes to town. The Professional Tarpon Tournament Series consists of a men’s and women’s division. The men participate in five, three hour, regular series events. The woman have three, three hour events. Teams may weigh one fish daily, and obtain points towards the Team of the Year Race by releasing and weighing fish. The Top 25 teams qualify for the Tarpon Cup championship, a single day, five hour, two Tarpon bag limit event. All PTTS tournaments are held in Boca Grande Pass, Florida. When K.C. was presented with the opportunity to co-sponsor a team with Andros Boatworks, one the best custom boat builders in the business, the decision was a lay down. K.C.’s “Golden Fly” piece is the featured wrap for the teams 23 CUDA boat. Look for team Andros on the World Fishing Network and Sun Sport Network airing now!

ISLAMORADA FL KEYS ~ FOR IMMEDITAE RELEASE April 13, 2010
14th Annual Spring All Tackle Bonefish Tournament
Unfounded reports of massive bonefish kills from our recent record cold winter were put to rest during the 14th Annual Spring All Tackle Bonefish Tournament. Seven weight fish (bones over 8 pounds) were officially weighed and released during 3 days of intense bonefishing. Thirteen releases were also carded during windy and cloudy conditions.

Captain Chris Jones guided Gary Parsons to 1801 points, constructed with three weight fish of 9 pounds 12 ounces, 10 pounds 8 ounces and 10 pounds 9 ounces, plus one release for the victory. All of these fish crushed live shrimp and were taken on ten pound Invisibraid Spider Wire in the backcountry of Islamorada.

Veteran tournament anglers and guides conspired behind the scenes to recognize the angling and charitable contributions of living fishing legend Jim Bokor, by renaming the event the Jim Bokor Spring All Tackle. Visibly moved by the surprise ceremony directed by his long time friend and ace angler Robert Collins, Bokor proceeded to celebrate the honor by finishing a close second with Captain Richard Black. Jim scored 1578 points, with a giant 13 pound 5 ounce fat silver football and two releases. The monster also took the Largest Fish Award, and gave proof to the very words Collins spoke during the kickoff at tournament headquarters The Islamorada Fishing Club, that Bokor has landed more bonefish over 10 pounds than any angler in the history of our sport.

Third place went to Captain Mark Gilman and Tony Horsley with two weights of 9 pounds 4 ounces and 11 pounds 4 ounces. Frank Delucas won most releases with Captain Mark Krowka with 6 silver bullets. Delucas also took home high point first time angler by adding a 9 pound 9 ounce weight fish. Richard Oliver took a 33 inch to the fork permit with captain Tad Burke to win the largest permit award. For information and dates of next year’s all tackle, contact Charlotte Ambrogio at 305-942-0428.

I figured it was a combination of events that must be combined for a painting. With these idea’s in my head, I dug into my memory bank for some archived images to help set the stage for the piece.
So I thought back to the night’s as a kid when I was introduced by my father and a family friend to tarpon fishing under the seven mile bridge in the Florida Keys. We always used live bait at the surface, which meant when the fish came, it was action like you never could imagin! Nothing like having your eye fixed on a 16 inch mullet swimming around for hours then all of a sudden he breaks the water flying through the air with a 100 pound fish on his tail! For a kid from Michigan who wasn’t use to seeing anything larger then a smallmouth bass break the water, the first time this happened I was lucky to have clean drawers and not to have fallen overboard! For those of you who have never hooked a tarpon, it can be an awesome spectacle. They can put on an acrobatic show that makes a Sean Johnson Olympic routine look like child’s play. Sometimes it’s not the acrobatics of the fish that are most exciting, it’s the sheer chaos that takes place within the boat trying to get everything in order to chase the silver king! This push-pull relationship that now takes place can last over an hour but with luck on your side, a landed fish is a story that will go on the top five of most angler’s all time highs! I could go on for pages about the amazing stories that the king has brought to me, so at this, I hope you enjoy my vision of the last rise of the night.

After I finished “Pablo’s Red-Eyed Shad” I had decided to paint one more freshwater fish before I headed back to Florida. I was tossing around a few different ideas and then on September 9th it was reported that a new world record brown trout had been caught in the Manistee River in Northern Michigan. This was the perfect piece of inspiration that I needed! Not only are brown trout beautiful, but now the world record comes from my home state. With all of this new inspiration, I put the brushes to work and created “Undercover Brown”.

Bone fish are commonly referred to as “Ghosts” because of their ability to blend in so well with their surroundings. One second you may be getting ready to send a line their way and the next they are gone. With this in mind, I really tried to capture the way the silver scales reflect the sunlit iridescent water of the Florida Keys. With these elements, I created “The Ghost of the Keys”

Marlin Magazine, one of the world’s largest fishing magazines, has an art contest each year. This contest brings in work from artist across the globe. This year over 60 artist submitted their work to Marlin Magazine and only 15 were chosen to be featured in the magazine. My “Stealth-Mode Sail” was one of the lucky chosen pieces! I was honored to be selected as a finalist. Not until I received the issue did I realize how amazing a feat this was for me. I was with the best of the best in the marine art industry, and I shared a page with the most recognized of all, Guy Harvey!

Six years ago this week I was playing in the PGA Tour’s Buick Open. Here I am six year’s later enjoying golf more then ever, and playing very well, but not on a professional stage. It makes me look back and question the way I went about things while I was playing golf full time. Now that I have differed my attention to art, golf is no longer the “only child in my life”. As I was pounding my head against the wall trying to become a better golfer, yet only getting worse, my family always stressed finding success in something other then golf. At the time, being the stubborn person that I am, I let it pass in one ear and out the other. Looking back I wish I would have listened! However, that brings me to where I am today and without those experiences in the past six years I don’t think I would have found the artistic being that laid dormant inside me! I am always asked if I miss playing golf full time. Thinking about it, I do miss the competition but I don’t miss the rest. The constantly traveling, the ups and downs the game provides, hotels, and poor food have no appeal to me anymore! It seems that the past six years have acted more as a trampoline that hkkscas put me on the stage I am on now! So I look back extremely proud of my accomplishments with no regrets, but ready to see what the future holds on the path that I have newly discovered!

Blogging! Such a great vechical to get your word out, but when writing is not your thing it tends to get pushed to the back of the bus! The past six weeks has been very busy. I finished the largemouth, had “River Steel” displayed in the inaugural ARTPRIZE contest in Grand Rapids, MI and ventured back to saltwater where trired to translate the images I have witnessed chasing bonefish on the flats of Islemorada to canvas.

Oh yeah, I also talked the most amazing women I have ever met into getting engaged to me!

Bonefish are the ultimate mirror underwater, which shows a wonderful reflection of their surroundings. Because of this, they earn the name “Ghost of the Flats”, one minute you are getting ready to send a line in their direction and the next, they are gone! I tried to capture the strong sunlight that so often lights up the Florida Keys. All of these great attributes combined with my artistic touch equals “Ghost of the Keys” my fist attempt at our illusive bonefish!

ARTPRIZE was an amazing oppertunity! For those of you that don’t know, ArtPrize is a worldwide contest based in Grand Rapids Michigan where the downtown district business became art galleries. To top it off it was largest prize for an art contest of $500,000, $250,000 going to the winner ! I was luckey enough to get accepted in the contest where my work was displayed at Leo’s Restraunt. Unfortunately I didn’t make the top 10 but it was great expousure and awesome to be a part so such a great event!

Now I have ventured back to the freshwater rivers of Michigan to capture one of our favorite fishing targets, the Brown Trout! So stay in touch at www.kscottart.com for the finished piece.

With the golf season in Michigan coming to a screaching hult due to the gift of terrible weather from mother nature. This gives me the oppertunity to focus on keeping my brushes wet and get some of these great images out of my head and onto canvas! Along with the Brown Trout I have sketched out an air borne tarpon and working on a commission for a friend that I am extremely excited to do! This winter looks very encourageing for KSCOTT ART!
